Interior trends like Cottagecore and Forestcore dominated in 2022 and 2023, but now, according to Pinterest Predicts 2024 report, there is a new trend that blends “vintage Americana chic with deep moody hues”, enter (through the rustic saloon doors) - Western Gothic.

What Is The Western Gothic Interior Trend?

Our homes have been filled with soft and muted palettes that invoke a sense of tranquillity, but Western Gothic seeks to warm and cosy up your space with much darker elements instead.

Emily Simmons, creative director at Ruggable says, “The western gothic trend takes inspiration from the American ranch life, remixed with dark, industrial elements.

And it appears that’s exactly what Gen Z and boomers alike have been searching for on Pinterest with ‘Western Gothic’ and ‘Vintage Americana’ both increasing by 145%.

How To Get The Western Gothic Look At Home

The Western Gothic style sets a darker tone for your home, with deep stormy paint colours and dark leather furniture.

“Key features include moody colour palettes, leather fabrics, faux cowhide prints, and edgier furniture and décor, which can be easily incorporated into your interiors for an on-trend look,” explains Simmons.

If you want to incorporate Western Gothic into your home, Simmons explains three ways to get started.

1. Colour Palette

The colour palette is crucial, always opt for black as the main colour, then include softer shades of “greys, beiges and bruised”, she explains, “The softer dark shades will help create a moody atmosphere, lending well to the gothic theme.”

2. Natural Elements

To bring natural elements into the space, consider wood, jute rugs, and rattan. The darker they are, the better. “This will naturally tie together the gothic vibes and the western look,” adds Simmons.

3. Fabrics & Prints

Finally, Western Gothic wouldn’t be complete without some leather fabric and faux cow prints. “Think leather furniture, fringed curtains and faux cowhide printed furnishings like rugs and cushions to hint at the cowboy style and complete the perfect western gothic interior look,” says Simmons.
